Troubleshooting "localhost:8080 error"
Situation:
I am getting a http://localhost:8080 error when I try to run MoldTech®
This error generally means that the Java 2 Runtime program on your computer is not successfully launching to allow MoldTech® to run. Either Java is not installed correctly on your computer, or there is a third-party program stopping the application from running correctly.
Solution 1:
- If you have Norton Internet Security, Norton Anti/Virus, or McAfee installed on your computer, there is a chance that your installation of MoldTech did not complete successfully. Review the installation instructions to temporarily turn off (not just Disable) your security program(s) while installing MoldTech®.
Also, check your Windows XP Firewall program within your Control Panel, and be sure to turn off the Windows Firewall program while installing MoldTech®.
After installing MoldTech® successfully, turn your firewall program back on. When first launching MoldTech® after installation, your firewall program should prompt you with a warning asking whether it should "Allow" MoldTech to run. Click the prompt to allow MoldTech® to run, and your firewall program should configure itself to always allow the file, "javaw", needed by MoldTech® to run in the future. If you accidently said "no" to this prompt, go to your Firewall's configuration settings and configure it to allow "javaw" to run under its exceptions list.
Solution 2:
You may have an "Anti-Spyware" program on your computer that is preventing MoldTech® from running successfully. Even if you don't think you have an anti-spyware program on your computer, always check your program folder for unknown or mysterious applications and uninstall them if you do not want them on your computer. Anti-spyware programs scan your computer in the background and can inadvertently delete, remove or quarantine files that your operating system actually needs in order to function correctly with Java programs.
Trend Micro and Intermute are two known anti-spyware applications that can restrict the use of files needed by Moldtech® and other Java applications residing on your system. If your operating system has been damaged from third-party applications, it is your responsibility to fix your operating system files before trying to run or install MoldTech®.
The following information is provided to you as a courtesy and is a possible solution for getting MoldTech® to run on a computer that has been manipulated by anti-spyware software; however, MoldTech® Technical Support is not responsible for assisting with computers that have operating system problems.
- To check and see if your Java files have been corrupted, go to
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
- Verify your Java application is working correctly by pressing the "Verify Installation" button.
- If your browser crashes or you see nothing happening, your Java has been corrupted and your Windows XP software needs to be repaired.
- Uninstall any Anti-Spyware programs you may have on your computer.
- Uninstall Java and Java Webstart using the Add/Remove in the control panel
- Reboot the computer
- Follow The Instructions Here to Re-Install MoldTech®. This will re-install Java2 Runtime and Java Webstart.
- Remove CD from Tray and reboot computer.
- Launch Moldtech® on the desktop. The Moldtech Survey List should appear in the Mozilla window.
Solution 3:
- If Solutions #1 and 2 above does not apply to you, or you believe you have successfully installed MoldTech (without receiving any errors) and you are still having a localhost:8080 error, then go to WWW.JAVA.COM and look for the animation on Java's homepage to verify that you have the latest Java installed on your computer.
- Follow the instructions on the Java website to be sure you have the latest Java, and then Follow The Instructions Here to Re-Install MoldTech.
