I need to resize my photos to a smaller resolution, but I don't have a program to do it.
Situation:
Your camera has taken pictures at a resolution that is too large, and you want to resize the photos. Because your reports will often have at least one photo for each issue, you need to pay close attention to the resolution settings on your digital camera when taking pictures during an inspection. Multiple hi-res photos imported into a MoldTech® report will cause file size problems depending on your computer's memory capacity.
Solution:
You must resize your photos to be below a total of 850KB (kilobytes) in size. This is generally a maximum of a 2 megapixel setting on most cameras. If you do not own a graphics program that will allow you to reduce your file sizes easily, you will need to get a third-party program to perform this step.
We have had good luck with two third-party programs to resize images:
- PIXResizer which works on Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP, Click Here to get PIXResizer or
- Image Resizer which is a Microsoft® PowerToy tool that works on Windows XP® only.
We do not provide live technical support for third-party programs, but we are providing the information below to show you the steps we followed to work with the Microsoft® "Image Resizer" program.
- Click here to go to the Microsoft® site and download the installer called "ImageResizer.exe" (you will have to scroll down about half way down the page and look to the right-hand column for "Image Resizer").
- Follow the installation procedures provided by Microsoft® to install the ImageResizer program on your computer. Generally, this will involve downloading the file to your computer, and double-clicking the file to run the installation.
- After install is complete, navigate to the folder on your computer that contains your images, and right-click on the picture you want to resize.
- A pop-up menu should appear. Choose Resize.
- Go to "Advanced" and put in 1600 x 1200 pixels as your custom setting.
- Check the box that says "Make pictures smaller not larger"
- Click "ok".
NOTE: To avoid this step in the future, consult your camera's owners manual and set your camera settings to the resolution that will be below a 2 megapixel setting before your next inspection.
